You're on the right track but in this day, we don't use enamel in the Marine industry. Everything is painted with Epoxy, it's bulletproof & it's CHEAP! $50/gallon including hardner. Endura is the most expensive Industrial coating & probably the prettiest, but all of them are brushable & flow well. You can even wet sand & polish them but the problem polishing these products is that you have about a 24hr window to wet sand & then forget it...once it's cured it's like cement.
Some of the best paint jobs in the world are painted with Endura. My blue 46WDX was Endura & there's not $300 worth of paint on that truck.
My orange 49...Endura.
PPG is great paint...just way more expensive. It's easier to work with but if you want durable, Endura is the undisputed King of the Castle. As much as I promote Powder Coat, I mostly use cheap Marine Epoxy on my frames & chassis parts, only because I get my paint free, my sand free & the equipment at my disposal. Powder Coat is great if done properly but marine epoxy...that's pretty much as good as it gets for our application.
