I was going to powder coat as we have a large outfit fairly close to me. I started doing some reading up on it and found out you can't sandblast with silica sand as it will screw it up. I was wanting to smooth up the frame in a few spots and wondered if sanding discs would be the same thing.
Long story short, I emailed the company 3 times with no reply and called once and they hung up. I figured if they treated people like that BEFORE they had your money I can only imagine what happens after and you have a problem.
I'll attached their FAQ page where it tells of the Silica deal.
By the way, Rustoleum does pretty well too. I've used it on things outside.(even farm gates by salted roads) and it's held up real well. If you get the off brands make sure it is oil based. I believe it's fish oil as it does "smell" like it when laying it on. You can spray it as well if you thin it.
Quality paints have gone through the roof. I got 1 gal of epoxy primer + hardener, 1 gal of 2k sandable + hardener, 1 gal reducer, 1 quart of urethane black + hardener and bill was $650.00. This was PPG. getting crazy out there.Kevin
