My experience with Powder Coating on surfaces exposed to UV, Road Slop and the elements has been terrible. My Buckstop bumpers on my 03 Ram are supposed to be Powder Coated Primed and then Coated. They claim a top notch process.....The bumpers are peeling off in sheets and other areas have been compromised and have rust forming under the powder coat.

My Cross Bed Tool Box is peeling off in sheets. No more powder coat of any kind on surfaces exposed to the elements. When I get time, I want to Blast my Buckstop Bumpers and tool box with Black Beauty. Then shoot with PPG MP-170 Epoxy Primer and top coat with PPG Hardened Chassis Black. I 'know' this combination works well in the elements. NOne of my frames show any peeling or rust anywhere and they take a lot of stone chip hits.

As a final doom for Powder Coat. I went to a local business that does Powder Coat to see what he would charge to strip and re-coat my bumpers and tool box. The price was not to bad, but he said he would not guarantee and Powder Coat exposed to the elements. He said in his experience, the slightest chip from a rock will allow water to get under the powder coat and then rust starts. The Powder Coat will start lifting.
