I agree with Paul. I have had 1 radiator repaired (WC53) and the other recored (51 ffPW). Both had minor tank leaks (Splits) that were patched. The core in the ffPW was physically damaged too much to repair and had to be recored. They were able to clean (rod) the core from the WC53 and repair 1 minor leak due to a rock strike. Both radiators have been back in service for close to 10 years and I have had no problems. If the tanks are destroyed he may have to look for a new one. As Paul stated if you buy another used one you may still have to do a lot of work on it. It would not be a bad idea to just go ahead and recore his current one as the core would be clean with not loss in cooling capacity due to build up in the tubes. Modern radiators are much better than those of the Pilot house era. Be suer to use a quality radiator shop. I used a marine grade core for my 51 ffPW.
The WC53 which has a V8 tended to overheat a little when I was in Reno and the temperature was 100 degrees. The Radiator is just minimal for the V8 in hot weather and when I am stuck in traffic. I did resolve most of the overheating issues very easily.
