The whine is quieter but there in 1st, 2nd, and less so in 3rd and really takes off in 4th. I can't go above 35 MPH without feeling that I'm in the center of a jet engine. What's interesting is that if I go down hill in 4th gear the noise goes away. It's like pressure is taken off a bearing. Could this be the problem? I know what you mean by 4th gear is locked input/output.
I found a post in March 2007 by Ira Hazen where he had a similar problem. Gordon Maney mentioned that it could be a front case bearing, but there never was a follow up to say if that truly was the problem. It's kind of funny where the first post was also by ChrisCase saying to add heavy oil :)
Any thoughts? How easy/hard is it to check out the front case bearing?
