Where was this? Do you know anybody who can find out anything more about who, where, and why? I understand "mutual aid" and all, but a fire department has to be first of all a local organization, not a little insignificant division of some big federalized organization to be sent to wherever the richest people are currently most in danger of losing their shake-roofed mansions. What happens when we get a fire in Idaho (it's been known to happen) and all our brush trucks are off in Florida or California? The next time I see our fire chief, I'm going to ask him if he knows anything about this.
