Well about a week ago I was pulled off my engine for my Incident Command Team activation. Needless to say I wasn't happy since we were fighting fire, and my team job is in base camp. My engine is still working fires, and I'm assigned to the Shasta Lightning Complex, we have base camp at the Anderson Fairgrounds. Over 150 seprate fires, some burning together, others growing quite large.
Today I was asked if I would like to get out of camp and get a line assignment. Well stupid bald me, I didnt bring my gear, thinking I would never be able to go out since I fill an important roll in camp. turns out the whole reason the fires are still burning after more than a week, is that there is simply no staffing to put out there. We have outstanding orders for 40 dozer bosses and none were filled. So if I go I'll be walking with dozers to establish over 50 miles of fire line.
So I called the wife to see about shipping my gear. No answer yet.
Steven, my plan is that if I go on the line for 24 hour shifts, I can get ahold of you on one of my 24's off and make arrangements to get everything.
Eric B. I ordered a speedo disc the other day. If I don't get to rate you right away, I will eventually. I'll have my wife tell me when it arrives. Now it looks to be another 3 weeks before we are outta here.
