I have met 2 of the engineers taht were forced out of GM around 1970 for the reasons you describe. I even met a machinist from Rolls Royce who quit in the mid sixties because of the allowable errors they started letting pass in production. Not jsut the US has suffered greatly from the bean counters.
I can't believe the gov is going to bail out some of the big banks.
