Are you using a gas such as argon? Or Tri-mix (90% helioum, 7.5% argon, 2.5%carbon dioxide)? You will need it for no spatter welding. Don't use outside. The wind will blow the gas away.
Don't know about the Miller but my Hobart Handler needs the polarity correct.
Try your weld settings in the middle on scrap and adjust from there.
