Okay, then it's a feature rather than a bug, and I'll be careful not to mess with it. I am going to try to get the shaft out of the housing so I can see if there's a seal I can replace to keep the oil from getting up into the distributor. It looks like I need to knock out a pin that has swaged ends in order to get the shaft out.
