My mom's 1991 Dodge Caravan had the same problem. I recall getting the tapes out by sticking something (like a screw driver) under the front of it and popping it up. It did not take much force. Unfortunately, I had to do this every time, but at the time I was usually using a CD player with a cassette adapter that had a wire on it. When I wanted to eject that, I would just give a little tug on the wire and it'd pop right out.
