I have the story buried somewhere but it goes something like this.
A general had his horse shot out from under him. My ancester gave up his horse and was subsequently captured by the Southern forces.
He was sent a prison and later escaped.
Our name, Farrier, shows up quite often as we were horse shoeer's. The name can be traced back to the time of the Romans.
