I have done more research too, I think I would need to make or buy a stepped ring mandrel to help. The leather mallet sounds good, I have been only "hitting" the inside of the ring against wood to avoid damage.
If people actually sell this stuff at these prices I find, it could be a profitable hobby, maybe.
This project is for my sister-in-law. So much craft stuff is only displayed to be copied at home later. ha ha
