Yep, that's the short answer. The fact is, if you just put the acid/electrolyte in, the battery SHOULD be fully charged. Even if it's not exactly there yet, if it has enough charge to start the vehicle, I would just go ahead and let the vehicle's charging system top it off.
I like having a variable-voltage charger and monitoring current and voltage while charging, but I realize most battery chargers don't have two meters and a continuous adjustment knob. The advantage of more meters and a knob is that I can decide whether I want a "trickle" charge or I want to try to resurrect a supposedly "dead" battery by pushing it really hard until it starts to accept a charge, or anywhere in between.
