Lube it using your favorite method, then get it started moving with a screwdriver forced into the joint.
This is another place where I use my 'inside out pliers'. Snap ring pliers with duck bills, not the ones with pins. Once the gap is 1/8" erso, the pliers will "gently force" things apart without so much hammering.
Work both sides and the middle evenly.
