I just read about the trials and tribulations of the only such plant that's actually been built so far. They built it next to a giant slaughterhouse, and the process works fine, but they've been constantly bogged down with legal and regulatory trouble because a lot of people say it stinks. Apparently it even "stinks" when it's not operating, which tells me either it's the slaughterhouse itself that people are smelling or a lot of people are simply against the plant for whatever reason. There are lots of good alternative energy schemes that should be built, even though they won't make much difference in our oil consumption, but it seems that no matter how enthused a few people are about building it, when it comes down to politics and permits, nobody wants anything the least bit industrial build anywhere near them.
