I have always been told the exact same thing about Valvoline. Whenever I tore apart an old engine that was full of sludge, some oldtimer would say, "Someone's been running Valvoline in it."

I have used nothing but Pennzoil in all my engines since 1975. I have never found sludge buildup in any of them.
