Old oil gets acidic.
Oil change intervals can be set by tasting the oil. New oil is like Canola oil- little taste, only an oiliness on your tongue. Old oil is more reminiscent of brake fluid- YUCK! Ptooie.
The acidity actually corrodes away bearing material.
The corrosiveness can't be good for injection systems. Hmm, or maybe it just acts a cleaner? Anyway, old Mercedes are cheap. Run it for free, when it burns up get another.
But then, I suppose most people change their oil long before it goes acid?
