best way to tell you is take a piece of chalk (like a cigarete)and hold one end and twist the other it will break on a 45 degree angle > i took a course on destruct and non destruct > destruct, this is were you broke things on purpose to see how it broke such as welds and such >non destruct was x rays, fluxing ,checking with out wrecking> i think there are still books around on this subject> you have to remember i was in the field long before plasma cutters and mig welding so a lot has changed > the trailer guys making tankers would cut with a torch, ends of tankers and stick weld them in> you had to be good, and each tank WAS x rayed for defects> todays technology has came a long way >and i am old iron so i would suggest you pick up some info on this and other failures its good reading and tells you why $hit happens J
