I have a 2005 Dodge sprinter cab and chassis box truck. the 08s have the new mercedes v-6 diesel. mine has the older mercedes in line 5 cylinder diesel. yes 5 cylinder. It gets 15 mpg on winter blend and 17 on summer blend diesel. the vans get 20ish. the new v-6 doesn't do as well. This 5 cylinder in a dakota would be pretty good. But these sprinters have their problems. if they don't have the exact amount of the eaxact proper oil the do weird things. idiot lights go crazy. they have problems with the crank dampener twisting off the the keyway on the cranks sometimes requiring a new engine. they don't like anything but the best cleanest diesel. mine runs like crap if it gets anything hmmm slightly diffrent color. In my opinion they are built to light duty. they have struts on the fron. 1 transvers fiberglass leaf spring for the front suspension. they sell all kinds of rear suspension kits like air bags and tembrens for the rear. ( or else the rear is on the ground) mine goes through brake pads and rotors on all 4 wheels about every 13,000 miles. A lot of the contractors around here have had a lot of problems. mine is rated at 10,200 pounds. it is within its weight rating at the high end. But this is what America is going to have to have as far as vans go. ford is doing away with the econoline in 2010 chevy is getting rid of their van. ford and chevy are bringing their eueropean versions here. My sprinter has 40,000 miles on it. it has had 4 brake jobs, 3 turbo resonators, ( I finally put an after market solid aluminum one on) 1 windsheild wiper motor. it currently needs struts, and glow plugs as the idiot light is on again saying # 3 glow plug is bad. It still has its original set of 6 michelin tires on it. probably have about 6000 miles left on them. PS these are unibody constructed.
