Try adding extra gaskets to see how many it takes to make the same mis-alignment the other way? Then use the average thickness of gaskets?

I wouldn't discard the thin ones, I'd just use 4 of them, total .104", because I'll bet that is well within the above experiment. .006 over, rather than .020 under.
