I have an '06 QC longbox, auto with 4:10 gears. I am in about the same mileage range, but I still have the 5.9. I had the exact same truck with 3:73 gears in an '05 and had considerably better mileage, like 11 - 12 towing and up to 17 - 20 empty. I see they are advertising a 3:50 6-speed truck now. Depending on how heavy you are towing, it may be a very good option for mileage, though it may require a downshift on the highway when loaded. Not sure if they are putting that high of a gear in duallies though. We have a few QC long boxes in NEPA. There is a company that does a conversion from mega short to mega long boxes for $5500. In a 50k + truck, not a bad deal. I know it doesn't answer your question, but hope it helps some.
