Their mill is in Clearview just west of hwy 9 which is just south of Snohomish. I had them cut about 80 lineal feet for me. It was just a little over $3.00 a lineal foot in 2004. I used it to build 6 foot wide steps that are only attached to the skirts with a galvanized bracket. There is also no riser so it is an open stir case but 3" of the 7" rise is solid wood so there was no code violation as 4" is the max spacing to keep little kids from putting their heads through. There is no flex in those steps. At the base of the steps I built an 8' x 8' deck and used the 3 x 12 as the side frames. It has a 8 ' long step that again is only supported on the ends. It has just a little flex. It made a real nice set of steps and I needed the full 3" thickness for the span i wanted and it really makes a nice visual stair case.

With HD and Lowes you have to be very careful of the lumber. The Lowes here seems to have a good supplier of treated lumber. It is the most dimensionally consistent and is well cut and the knife marks do not shred the wood. I used their for my deck joists and have been very happy. I would not touch the stuff at HD or two other regular lumber yards. It was always shreded and badly twisted.

I have also bought some 4 X 12 douglas fir beams to support my second story decks and put treated posts under them. They are quality beams and are obviously well beyond what code requires. Most of the time they just sandwich treated 2 X 10s for the support beams. But in our rainy climate I will not do that as water will get down between them and rot them out. I have learned to always leave a gap for water to drain through and air to flow through to keep the wood drier.
