Dave - I cross the chains in back because if your truck and trailer are not as one as they occasionally aren't if the roads are bumpy then your truck can walk to one side of the trailer. I have actually seen a car hanging off of the trailer along the road on the way to Carlise. Also you get a better angle to the side if you cross the chains. I also agree with the zip tie your chain binders. Roads around here are bumpy and they can pop open. I am going to go get a 1030 Model A in Erie on Saturday so this was a good reminder for me!
