I was younger and into all the PW research (early 80's) and was experimenting with the formulas I had found for gearing, tire size, engine rpms and true enough as was said,my engine did get its best mpg at between 60-80% of rated hp rpms which turned out to be at 46mph.It was a 64'WM300 with 251 L-6,lacking a winch and bed or about 1000lbs.The Speedometer was correct(using the buddy drive beside method). Is it possible for the speedo to be correct and the odometer to be off?Anyway I checked it several times and always got the same results,10mpg around town or above 46mph and 16mpg at 46mph.Has anyone had a noticable mpg increase since they put on locking hubs driving econo mph?
