I have been seeing that gritty reddish brown type sand plugging todays fuel injected vehicles filters for quite some time now. Also the sock on the intank pump also gets gritted up.As fuel related problems are the most commen failure in todays vehicles a number of the monthly automotive trade mags discuss filter, pump,+ injector problems quite often. It has also been discussed that the additives that gasoline cos add to fuel make this grit.Todays Central or port injected fuel systems run at a lot more pressure then any carb/ mech pump such as used on our old iron + they still plug + cook in tank pumps so watch your filters on a regular basis
