It feel like I'm writing this greeting more often.
Another perfect morning for refreshing the forum, nice and quiet around the house, even Rosie, our dog, didn't feel like getting up. The girls are still sleeping. Just back from a visit to Nantucket Island, off the coast of Massachusetts with their uncle and cousin. My youngest daughter said the 6 to 8 foot seas were a little rough, "even worse than riding in the Power Wagon". (Great, thanks !) Its nice to have them back home.
I found a couple of pictures of my first. This is the 1st Power Wagon that I remember seeing. Somewhere around 1978-79. It was parked at the Texaco station, across the street from my uncle's store where I was working that summer. I remember thinking that this was the the greatest looking truck. It just ooozed power, ruggedness, nothing could ever stop this thing. "And look at all those levers on the floor. This is great!"
I spoke to the owner, the price was $800, and there was a parts truck that came with it. "What a deal, I'm in Power Wagon heaven." Better run this by dad.
JOE: Hey Dad, I found this great truck, only $800 and it comes with a spare truck, Can I...
DAD: No
JOE: But its the greatest looking Dodge I have ever seen, a POWER WAGON, says it right on the hood.
DAD: What are you going to to with it?
JOE: Drive it, what else? (I'm thinking it would also be great for going through the woods)
DAD: How much did you say it was?
JOE: Only $800
DAD: Does it run?
JOE: Ahhhh, I don't know
DAD: You want to buy a truck, and you don't even know if it runs?
JOE: Well you worked on Dodges in WWII, you can help me get it going if it doesn't.
DAD: Where are you going to get the money?
JOE: I have the money I saved for school, I could use that, and if you could lend me....
The rest is just a blur now, no I never did buy that truck. But it did leave a lasting impression with me.
