Unfortunatley, in my area which was rural but now is semi-rural, the auctioneers doing the farm auctions have been doing the "buyers premium" for several years now. I do not like it, and have avoided these auctions since then as I think it is a rip off.
Up in more rural areas of the state, with more "competition" among auctioneers, I think there is less of this practice.
