When I was a teenager.
Had a U-bolt that was just a hair too tight of a U. Heated and bent the U out a bit and installed it.
I was finishing the final tightening and the bolt snapped in half. I had hardened the steel by heating it. Great for sharp tools .. not so good for holding torque.
I learned a valuable lesson in metallurgy that day and was very thankful that it happened before I was on the road.
