Here's a link to a little transister thingy that makes 12v from 24v. 85 cents each. Good for one amp. I just made a five-volter for my FFPW, cost came to $7 with a little box to put it into, fuse holder, etc. But Radio Shack doesn't stock the 12-volter, so you need to order on line.
One of them should make enough juice for your temp gauge too.
