Looks like there are iron 'shields' with a small gap between. The coils make magnetism that shoots through the gap? And affects the little magnet on the needle? Gap adjusts independently on each end.
But I guess I'll pull the tank and pry that unit apart for 'rewinding'...
I'll make those 6v components work on 12v, or they will die trying...
I already made a 'sender substitute' out of a 5k pot with a 1.5k r4esister soldered across it to make the range about 0-2000 ohms. Makes the needles move, in dash or on the bench with Makita battery power source.
