That looks like the way I do wiring :=)
The starter solenoid is incorrect, you need a 4 post
The resister is a 12v to 9v type which is incorrect. You need a ballest resistor
#3 is the voltage regulator
#4 smaller red wire goes to the "B" terminal on the ignition switch
Sounds as though the truck is incorrectly wired. The PIF has wiring diagrams. Print and trace with a pencil to see how it should be wired matching components.
