Cat 3208/Chev 427 concerns aside, I'd look at all those gas powered trolleys with the one diesel powered one amongst them and think perhaps there is a good reason. Maybe for or against the Cat.
I think most paying customers, if polled after riding in both, would rate gasser over diesel power in a slow open-air vehicle. Think about the noise and smell of the engine. Very few poeple will say the clatter of a mechanical injection diesel is more pleasant than the very muted hum of a gasser when trying to talk to family members or listen to a tour guide speaking while riding in or standing next to it. I imagine the speed is not very fast so the exhaust smell may be readily apparent, especially for those near the exhaust pipe exit. Again the gasser has the advantage, once a gasoline powered engine is warmed up, the exhaust smell is much less noticable. I can notably smell the exhaust of most every diesel that drives by on my street but only the rare gasser(usually either a junker running very poorly or a rich running hotrod).
Anyway, that's my 2C on the overall gas/diesel in this particular scenario though I have ZERO experience with this type of thing so its probably worth what you paid for it.
