PayPal question for the experts

I want to send a couple very small Power-Wagon parts to a fellow enthusiast in Brazil. Shipping is crazy for even a padded envelope. He wants to pay shipping through PayPal. I have never dealt with PayPal, only Postal Money Orders. I don't want to set up a PayPal account. I don't want them to know anything about me other than maybe an address and email. I don't trust them because of the stories of them not settling disputes.

The Power-Wagon guy in Brazil indicates that a person does not need a PayPal account in order to receive payment, only an email address. How can that work?
