I use a Jordan full proportional controller. The Jordan does not have electrical connection to the brake light circuit nor does it sense de-accelaration to apply trailer brakes.

The Jordan controller attaches to the brake pedal with a Stainless Steel Cable. It will also work normally with adjustable pedals. As you push on the brake pedal, the stainless cable cable is pulled which is attached to the Jordan Controller. A very light pedal push activates a very light trailer brake. A hard emergency stop push on the brake pedal applies the same braking to the trailer. Being fully proportional any brake pedal input you give is applied to the trailer brakes.

There is another full proportional controller built by BrakeSmart. This controller has a sensor that goes in series with a hydraulic brake line at the master cylinder.
This sensor senses hydraulic pressure and applies the trailer brakes in a proportional manner. Another advantage with Brakesmart is that as a option the controller readout can also read EGT and some other things which I forget. The only reason I did not go with Brakesmart was that my Ram was still in warrantee. I did not want to open the brake line and install the sensor and maybe have a denied warrantee problem.

I am sold on fully proportional controllers. Your truck and trailer brakes are as one. You never feel any surge or push by the trailer. If a controller is not sensing pedal application pressure, its not fully proportional.
