Trying to help a fellow Power Wagon owner out and he has a set of M13 Warn hubs he's fixing up for a spare set. The Pins( I believe there are 12) that link the collars together are the parts in question. His were buggered up and he wanted to replace them. He contacted Warn and the are discontinued and sounds like they blew him off. He got some dowels and sent them to me to grind down to the same length.
When I Checked the Rockwell on the originals they were dead soft. The new dowels check 60 which is the same as hardened, A2 tool steel.
My question to those of you who have broke them or know, are the dowels the designed breaking point or did they use soft steel to save money? I wouldn't want to have him put the new ones in and come back to haunt him later. Any help appreciated, Kevin
