The SEAL teams have been using the M14 as a sniper plaform and the USA Special Forces units have them also. A SF weapons sergeant friend told me that the M14 SOCOM is a great sniper platform because the automatic action and 20 round mag allows for a faster follow up shot(s).
The Marine Corps uses the bolt action M40 system, which is a Remington 700 (modified by the Marines). Much slower action, but more acurate.
Obviously, the Marines are not too concerned for the need for a "follow up" shot.
