I split open some threads in an aluminum casting
once. I filled the affected areas with JB Weld,
drilled and retapped the hole and never had a problem.
I wasn't looking at a needle seat at the botton and
that presents a bit of a different challenge for
pilot allignment not to mention keeping the seat clean.
How about retap the hole one size larger, machine
a needle on a new brass machine screw ? You would be
removeing less material from the carb casting than
a helicoil I think. In any case, alignment is
the key.
