5:89's (forgive me, it may be 5:83) came in the stock Mil Vehicles, Later you could find (3/4t & Power Wagon) 4:89's (these were rare though, think it started w/ambulances)
If I recall, they were special order for the civy PW.
There are aftermarket producers of the 4:89's, that will sell one differential ring and pinion set for around $300, then you install. (Have a professional do it if you REALLY don't know about such things)
Speed with stock setup and 4:89's is around 52-55mph (depends on how the engine feels) from what I've read.

I have a pair of rare factory 4:30's in my '42 Command Car that came out of (I was told) a 45-55 "ish" bread truck.(I wonder what the school bus might have)
I can do 62mph before the tires start to imbalance too much (no stress on the engine though) and I loose battle of speed on long slight hills, dropping to 42 before I have to make the decision to drop into 2d.

There are differences between the 1/2ton axle parts and latter 3/4 ton parts. Many will not interchange! (ring gear increased in size, spline count and shaft length changed)
Brent Zentmeyer's book covers the details.

With stock gears, don't push it over 45mph, or you risk replacenginitus.
Regards WAW
