What others have said are good suggestions. I have an IR two stage as well and am running 2 separators, one at the compressor and one mounted on the blaster.
Here are some basics on blasting that I've learned over the years. You want to get the air in the lines BACK to outside air temp before it reaches the blaster. There are a couple of ways to do it if you can't afford a dryer(I can't ;)) Having a long run of hose will help but won't solve it as you run WAY to much volume for it to keep up. The best thing I've found is to put about 100 ft of hose into a 50 gal drum of water(outside) and fill it full of water. Put a water hose in it and let it run slow, this will keep the water temp from getting hot. As the air passes through the air lines your basically creating a radiator with the drum of water. The moisture will condense and your trap will get it.
Another thing is to watch your tips. If they wear and get big you'll be using more air than needed and your compressor will work harder(come on more) and you'll get more heat.
Most all compressors that I've seen running blasters will get hot. It's about the biggest strain you'll ever put on a compressor. I found a VERY good compressor guy AFTER I bought mine. He told me IR's weak link is the crank. He should me parts manuals and they have what is called a hanging crank. 2 bearings on one end with nothing on the other(made in India). He said the wear faster because of that and doesn't recommend them for anything that is above home owner or small shop. He asked right away if I was blasting and he just cringed and said "good luck". That said, I've had it 5 years with no problems. I do change the oil every year though. Hope this helps, Kevin
