If you have a good solid truck that is restorable then I agree with you. I have a 52 ffPW that is in great original shape. No way will I do major changes to it except for safety reasons. I put in a dual cylinder master brake unit and will put disk brakes on it soon. All of this can be removed and the original replaced without any damage to the original truck.
My WC53 Carryall is a different story. The engine and trans were replaced when I got it and a lot of other stuff had been changed. I returned the body to stock with a couple of minor exceptions and returned the interior to original except for the seats and I covered the original metal interior to cut the noise. I still have the V8 and trans that it came with and I put a NP200 transfer case in it. I added some other stuff such as an alarm and sound system and put a nice paint job on it. However, I removed or repaired any body mods and extra holes added by previous owners. Someone can take that body and very quickly return it to totally stock if they so desire.
A lot of people think it is a show vehicle but I use it all the time and take it off road from time to time. I have shown it and it had had some significant recognition at some major shows (Hot August Nights, 4X4 Jamboree Ind, IN).
