...Dodge is now using Aisin 6 speed auto transmissions, behind the Cummins. The 2007 Chassis/Cabs and the 2008 Mega Cab and 3500 Diesels all have the Aisin 6 speed transmission. It is much stronger than the Allison.
The smallest Allison, or more accurately, the only Allison that fits into a pickup, is the Allison 1000 series.
It's original rating was 500 ft. lbs of torque.
The Isuzu diesel found in the GM trucks and the Cummins in the Dodge are now way beyond 500 lbs of torque rating and Allison has started to have the same reliability issues that New Process had, trying to live behind the Cummins.
The Aisin 6 speed automatic is strong enough to last for several future generations of Cummins torque increases.
