Yes, Hickman drove the Charger, McQueen drove the Mustang.
Since the studio didn't want McQueen driving, he raced nearly every weekend, using a false name, either in sports cars, off-road or dirt bikes, Harvey Mushman.
In the 'Great Escape' McQueen did all of the riding except the famous "Jump", because of the studio's insurance policy, his friend and fellow racer Bud Ekins, did the jump, while McQueen, dressed as a German Solider, chased his own character, on another bike!
McQueen represented the United States in the 1964 World Trials Championships.
