Do a search for Big Flats Rivets. They have a catalog/booklet that gives pointers in setting rivets.
I use an air chisel with a special tool bit that forms the head of the rivet. The trick I found is to securely hold the head of the rivet and at the same time clamp the two pieces you are riveting tightly together.
I designed several tools out of old pullers to do the holding/clamping function. Only after successfully performing that was I able to rivet like the factory.
