It all comes down to the vehicle your talking about. For the Dodge "W" series vehicles, "Differential and Carrier" or "Differential Assembly" are used as proper names. Other vehicles, third member is proper the same as spindle for the "knuckle." So depending what vehicle you're talking about, all the above terms would be correct, but they cannot be correctly applied to all vehicles. I'll sleep easy knowing you'll sleep easy :=)
