After the drought of 73-74 we had record rains. The lake was so big that the airport was under water as were many "homes" (tar paper shacks) I think that's when they built the levee to shrink the lake and maintain a constant shoreline and water depth.
A lot of boats had their bottoms ripped open in that lake before the new lake was made.....= )
