As a general rule, starter motors don't care about polarity. Neither do light bulbs. Just about everything else does care. I can't help wondering what else was affected. Certainly all the solid state electronics - the charging system in particular - depend on each other component transferring information about the condition of the connecting parts of the SYSTEM.
