With such underpowered trucks, it really helps to be able to shift quickly. With the non-synchro, it takes longer and the truck slows down too much between shifts.
Also, while upshifting a non-synchro is easy (shift into neutral, reduce engine speed to idle. let clutch up in neutral, shift into next higher gear), it is much harder to do the reverse when you want to downshift. Since the brakes are poor on these trucks, I like to be able to downshift to help with braking.
So I'd vote for synchro
