Ugly Dodge Trucks

Now I know I am going to stir up the pot with this one.
Why is it that Dodge made beautiful looking trucks right up to about 1951, maybe 1952 or 53, but after that they went right down hill. They let Ford and GMC take over until 1995. Tell me what happened there please.
