Deposit the check and wait and see if it's good before sending any money to anybody. It's certainly counterfeit, but I'm a big believer in trying things for yourself rather than taking somebody's word for it. Your bank may charge you a fee for depositing a bogus check, but if you pay somebody (good) money before you find out the check is bogus, you'll be out that money as well.

If you're bored, it might be fun to play along -- just get the fake check from him and see who his "shipping company" is. It's no doubt somebody you've never heard of who may not even have a street address. I've heard of people collecting these bogus cashier's checks and papering their wall with them. Yeah, theoretically it might be a legitimate buyer with a legitimate check and he could sue you for failing to deliver the goods, and theoretically a squadron of pigs could at this very moment be preparing for takeoff.
